Abstract

In order to analyze the influence of women's history approaches on Quebec historiography, this article uses many sources. First, L'histoire du Quebec contemporain, by Linteau, Durocher, Robert, and Ricard is evaluated. Second, the author examines the «palmares» of the many prizes offered by the Institut d'histoire de l'Amerique franchise since 1979. Third, two collections are scrutinized: books in regional history published by the Institut quebecois de recherche sur la culture and the short synthesis published in the «Boreal-Express collection)). Fouth, in a more personal approach, the author analyzes a selection of books published-in the fields of social history. The conclusion is quite pessimistic and observes that works, originally published in English, present a more inclusive approach.

Author Biography

Micheline Dumont

Micheline Dumont has taught history at the Universite de Sherbrooke from 1970 to 1999. One of the first historians to work in women's history, she has published many books and articles, especially L'histoire des femmes au Quebec depuis quatre siecles, (Quinze 1982; Jour 1992; Women's Press 1987) with le Collectif Clio. She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and has just been nominated «Professeure emerite de I'Universite de Sherbrooke».
